Benefits Of Having A DVR

It used to be that if you wanted to watch a show on television, you had to be near a TV that received the channel at the time the show was aired or wait for it to come back around in reruns. Technology advanced and there were video recorders to hook up to the television (VHS and Beta units). As things progressed further and people started subscribing to cable or satellite TV, digital video recorders (DVR) came into being. You no longer needed to have a blank tape to record your favorite show or sporting event. Even if you only watch a few shows or use the television only for sports and news, there are a few reasons you should have a DVR in your home.

When You Can't Be Home

If you have a favorite show and you cannot be home to watch it, a DVR lets you program the unit to record the show. You can even set it up to record the whole series so you don't have to remember to set the DVR in the morning before leaving for work. You will be able to watch the show when you have the chance. You may even want to wait until the season ends and just binge watch it so you don't have to wait between episodes.

When You Want to Save It

There are some shows you could watch over and over again. If you have a DVR, you can easily save them to the unit to be able to watch them as much as you want. If you end up saving too many shows and run out of space on the DVR, you can just save them to your computer or a DVD.

When You Thought You'd Be Home

As technology has grown, so have all the capabilities of items like DVRs. If you find yourself stuck at work or out with friends longer than you had anticipated, you can still record your favorite show on the DVR even when you hadn't set it up to do so. Many DVRs and cell phones will work to allow you to program the DVR regardless of where you are with your cell phone. This is not only handy when you forgot to preset the DVR, but is also good when you see something briefly and would like to find out more. This could be a news announcement or a special show you didn't know about beforehand. Simply use your phone to get the DVR at home going and you can then catch up later.
